Yes I am hooked.
And the last is the literary anniversary I mentioned yesterday.
It’s ninety years since D H Lawrence wrote Kangaroo, famously after a sojourn in Thirroul just north of Wollongong. This inspired a wonderful series by Artist Garry Shead.
It is also the 50th anniversary of my first reading the novel. In 1962 I was in English III at Sydney University and we “did” Lawrence – among others. Lady Chatterley then circulated in a brown paper cover – still banned in Oz at the time!
Reading Kangaroo again in eBook – and very pleasantly surprised by how comfortable such reading is – I wondered how on earth I had read it in 1962! As a 19-year-old! But more on the book next time.
