West Wollongong has so far avoided the worst of this.

Severe thunderstorms across Sydney are disrupting all flights in and out of the city’s airport and causing traffic chaos.

Airport officials says services will return to normal when the storm moves on.

The storms are also causing major traffic problems across Sydney, with 150 sets of traffic lights blacked out.

Fallen branches are a problem in the south and west, with blocked roads causing disruptions at Dundas Valley, Bringelly, Narellan and Leppington.

A spokesman for electricity supplier Ausgrid has urged people to stay away from fallen powerlines.

The spokesman says fallen lines are often still live and people should not touch or go near them.

The weather bureau has issued a severe thunderstorm warning with hail and damaging winds predicted for metropolitan areas and other parts of New South Wales including the Illawarra and central and southern tablelands…
