New Scientist worth a look

newscientist There is a special issue online now: Special report: Living in denial.

From climate change to vaccines, evolution to flu, denialists are on the march. Why are so many people refusing to accept what the evidence is telling them? In this special feature we look at the phenomenon in depth. What is denial? What attracts people to it? How does it start, and how does it spread? And finally, how should we respond to it?

I have to admit though that my eye was caught by a side story: Bat fellatio causes a scandal in academia.

I suggest you check both.

  1. I saw ‘When a sceptic isn’t a sceptic’ when Shermie first linked it on Twitter. Good stuff.

It’s always helpful to have the terminology at hand when someone tries to brush away ‘denialist’ as some kind of ad hominem designed to silence dissent. When in reality, they’re called a ‘denialist’ because they’re literally in denial and it’s pertinent to the discussion. It’s simply an accurate statement of fact!
