The vibrant world of Australian Indigenous music

I borrowed The Rough Guide to Australian Aboriginal Music from Surry Hills Library. What a gem it is.

CD cover

Compiled by Bruce Elder, the CD I have is dated 2008. Apparently there was an earlier one. Fortunately someone has uploaded the accompanying booklet as a PDF, so you can read all about it: THE_ROUGH_GUIDE_to_Australian_Aboriginal_Music — opens in same window.

Just a few days ago we lost one of the greats of Aboriginal music: Ruby Hunter.

Two years ago the brilliant Alan Dargin passed away. He is on the CD.

Archie Roach, Ruby Hunter’s partner, is also on the CD.

So is the Saltwater Band.

If you can get hold of the CD, do so. 🙂
